DO NOT click OK
Published on March 5, 2008 By I.R. Brainiac In WinCustomize Talk

Call me naive and foolish but I recently made my first 2 online purchases.A monitor from Office Max..and a vid card from Tiger Direct.

The purchase process for the vid card ends with a popup(allowed by TD),that ask you if you want to get 15$ off you next TD purchase...I was leary but clicked ok.

It only asked for my email,NEVER any CC info.Tiger Direct automatically gave them that and I was signed up without knowing it for a 12$ a month charge.(dumb me)

Google Reservation Rewards and you get a slew of people royally pissed about this shit. And some list of their 'partners'.

A legit charge didnt clear because of this so now I gotta fix that, dispute the charge, cancel TD and RR accounts and get a new card(I dont trust either of them not to abuse it further).

Buyer beware.

Very interesting I.R. Brainiac, I've used Tiger Direct in the past with out any problems. Don't believe I every saw any popups. They could have made a change though in policy, but that is a pretty darn bad one to have happen.

If I order anything else from them I will pay closer attention. Thanks of posting.

Only newegg.com for me.

Some claim to have been signed up WITHOUT signing up for the discounts. Some report charges going WAY back without catching them(so they never got any 'service').(gotta watch those statements).

I never have any more money in that account than needed for so I caught it quick.

Even after cancelling people reported being charged(of course).

TD will never get another penny from me.You can purchase without signing up but the fact that they are 'partnered' with RR is enough to show me what kind of company they are.

Funny thing is,if you call RR's customer service(and manage to get thru),the rep says 'ok,we dont usually do this, but for you we will make an exception"

They say this to everyone...hahahahahaha

Tiger direct has deceptive practices. I once placed an order with them over the phone and the sales rep asked me if I would like to be signed up for a free magazine as bonus for my order. I said sure and 3 months later they charged my credit card for it. It took a year before it finally was canceled and refunded to my credit card. Another thing was I could have subscribed to the magazine for half the price they charged.

Also, beware of the rebates. They state that you must send the paperwork in within a month or they will not honor it. I sent one in within the allotted time but they refused it because it was postmarked 30 days from the purchase date. I was told that since I bought it in February I was only allotted 28 days. I no longer buy from Tiger Direct.

I'm not going to go into details about my dealings with Tiger. But this I will say " they hate my guts!" and I'll never buy from them again. Another one to watch is buy.com - beware! Some of these people selling stuff online figure they can get away with a lot with people that rarely check stuff when they purchase; while some just give up after being burned.
Always check with things before you buy!
Newegg has done me very well as has Curcuit City too!
Best Buy - well I'm not going there if I do not have too...

Just becareful and nothing is never free! never!!!

Indeed, I built my computer with stuff from newegg, and got my monitor and laptop at circuitcity (have their rewards credit card).

I had an issue with a couple of motherboards I ordered through Newegg. Not only did they accept the RMAs without question - actually, the second time the gal on the phone did run through troubleshooting, but in a very pleasant way, and I appreciated the help - they even ate the return postage the second time and credited my card within minutes of receiving the bad parts.

I've now built two full computers through Newegg and will never, ever buy my parts from anyone else.

Strange I just bought a Refurbished Gateway from TD for $771.00 off my H&R Block refund card and didn't have any problems with them. Also my P.C. is in top condition. It was really quite a steal, considering. I'll be careful in my future dealings with them though.

The monitor came from Office Max...quick and in perfect condition...the vid card from TD is fine but the bad experience from the sneaky way they tricked me is a no brainer...no more money for Tiger.

Thanks for the 'heads up' Mike. I think after your experience and others I'll stay well clear of Tiger. Most of my on line purchases have been on eBay and newegg and I've never been disappointed.

Heres the latest article I have found concerning the lawsuit. WWW Link

I'm shocked to see how long this has been going on.I couldnt find a good list of their 'partners',but some pretty big names are in there.

Dell was one of them.Every partner gets a kickback from the montly fee.

Again I say...RR NEVER asked for card info...it was provided directly from Tiger Direct.

RR sends you emails explaining cancellation policies that are designed to get caught in spam filters.

Newegg is top notch. I've also had several good experiences with Zip Zoom Fly.
